I'm about to set up a brand new tank, and I will definitely be going BB. My question relates to getting live rock. I will be purchasing new live rock, and I was wondering what the advantages and disadvantages are of "cooking" new rock that's never been in a tank before.
If it is advisable to always cook your rock, even if it is brand new, then can anyone suggest a place where I might be able to purchase rock with really good shapes, but maybe not overpay for all of the extra life that will die off during the cooking process anyway? I was looking at the marshall rock from
Premium Aquatics, but that's awfully expensive rock to just end up cooking it. I can find lots of places that have rock with less life on it, but the shapes are all round and boulder-like. I'm looking for nice, open rock and I can't seem to find any that doesn't include what seems like a price premium for all of the "extra" life on the rock.
Thanks,
Brad
