Precision Marine Venturi skimmer
Does anyone know anything about these? I have an opportunity to pick one up and wanted to no if they're an improvement over my current Turboflotor 1000(not the hang on type). The PM is roughly 25" tall with a 5-6" riser tube.

This one?
http://www.precisionmarine.com/html/e-series_.html
I like the cup design of the PM skimmer better, and I like how the new water enters about 1/2 way up the skimmer chamber, but I like the recirculating needle-wheel design of the turbofloater better than the venturi.
If the PM were a needle-wheel I would say go for it, but I don't know about venturi, I have never seen one that works particularly well, they never seem to have enough, or small enough bubbles.

I agree with whiskey. the turbo 1k is a good skimmer and the cup design actually helps in the skimming contrary to popular belief. the funnel shape compresses the foam and makes it rise out of the chamber into the cup faster that the normal overflow types.

That is true Twitter, but the cup design also makes it impossible to use this skimmer to skim wet properly.

What model exactly are you thinking of buying?
We use 6 different PM skimmers on our 10,000 gallon system. 1- 7000 gallon exhibit, 3- 450 gallon exhibits and 1 400 gallon quarantine. I can probably help you answer your questions.....

You can certainly modify it. You can make it a needlewheel or even add a beckett injector. I seen kit's for injector's for like 35 buck's.

I don't know the model #. This guy at our reef club meeting was selling it for $100. That skimmer Wiskey linked to isn't it. I've been searching the net and haven't found a match for it yet. It's got the big square base like the beckett style only this was a recirculating venturi.

you know i have both a n.w. and a venturi skimmer running and i find that the venturi is the easiest to adjust . i can skim wet or dry by throtting the mag pump . i think the key is over driving it ( pump wise ) and using a tee with a valve on the non- skimmer side and adjusting water flow there . needle wheel i can't .

Does it have an injector like a beckett? If it's one of these models you will not be dissapointed with it's performance. I'm sure you have done it but go to http://precisionmarine.com/ and see if you can find it. If not give them a call. Michael Sigman( the owner) is an awesome guy to talk too. He'll be able to help you figure out what model it is. I'm sure it's worth the $100.

Well that worked. Mr Sigman identified the skimmer immediately. Its an old 1st generation cv626(about 6 years). He actually said the turboflotor would probably be better than this early edition unless the turbo wasn't working properly.
