Please do not think that I am any way an expert at this stuff. A couple of years ago I remeber a thread on another website where they were discussing some type of phosphate leach. I think it was phosphates. The corals were having a similar problem and that was the discussion as to frag them out and get them off of the rock that was doing the leaching. You might check in that area.

Yep, I remember that thread.
You have phosphate wicking up into the coral.

Thanks.......coral has done been whacked......
It just so happens that i got the bright idea of grabbing a rock that i found in the corner of my garage. It hadnt been cooked with the rest of my rock.........i figured a little piece of dead dirty rock wouldnt matter......ive only had that stag about 3 months...and you can see how much it encrusted and showed no issues before now......
hmmmm.......that rock in question i actually broke up and glued THREE frags to.........guess i should probably whack those too just be safe huh??

When you cut them, look at the break. I'm curious because some of them show wicking and some don't. I've seen them both ways.
Leave the part that's encrusted, it will grow you a new coral.

It's all has to do with the moon and the way you hold your mouth when you glue them.

If it makes you feel any better, I have this one piece of one rock, it sticks out, that I couldn't grow a coral on if my life depended on it.

That top picture looks more like something is eating it.
I can't tell from the picture. What does the coral look like? What color? bright snow white, or a off color?

its bright snow white.......my camera is white balanced to my tank lighting.........it doenst take very good pics colorwise under the kithcen lights.........
it doesnt look like anything is easting it to me.......it looks like up at that joint between the arms is doing the same thing the base was...just dying at the joint............
Ive had about every common predator in the past.......this is different.........
is it possible that if it is phosphate being wicked up like you said before that it would travel up and afflict another joint???
regardless....its not attached to that rock anymore so we will see.....
thanks

I've never seen P wick up, skip a spot, then do it again like that. Not saying it's not possible, but that doesn't make sense. Usually with P you just see what people call slowTN from the base up. It happens on the reef too.
That joint still looks like something ate it to me. Either a crab, fire worm, something. Looks like it sat there and cleaned that spot off. The edges look real sharp.
Sometimes, if a coral gets enough light or is "thin skinned" enough, the skeleton will turn bright green from the algae growing from the P it wicked up.

Thanks for the input Jerel. We will see what happens...........
Part of me hopes something did eat it.......but then again..........I really dont
Im having some odd stuff going on im my BB tank right now.........some corals are growing and looking awesome........some are bleaching...and some are browning out.............
Im confused a little........
I actually moved about 6 corals back to my 225 dsb today.........the ones that were concerning me the most...... i donno.........hopefully figure it out someday soon
