Painting bottom of tank?

I was thinking about painting the bottom of the tank on the outside of the tank. I was going to paint it white.

I figure it would reflect some light back instead the light going right thru the bottom glass.

Has anyone done this?

Is there any reason not to do it?

I doubt it could hurt much, but why not get a piece or starboard and add some protection as well?

My tank is only 10g, so I am not concerned with scratching the bottom.
Also, detritus gets under starboard or cutting board and I don't want that to happen in a tank this small.
Hopefully the entire bottom with get encrusted with coralline algae!

The starboard is not really to prevent the tank from scratching, it is to prevent the glass from breaking due to a rock slide. You could probably find a plastic cutting board in town that you could cut down to the size of your tank easily and cheaply.

That being said, I don't use it either, I just made feet for my rock out of cut up plastic coat hangers shoved into holes I drilled in the LR to prevent rocking of the bottom rocks and make more stable formation.

I'd be even more concerned. That glass in thin!

The amount of detritus that gets trapped under the Starboard is mininmal compared to what's in the LR even after cooking.
