But they leach something else right? Do you remember what the "other" kind of carbon leaches?

Thanks,

Hmmm, i have been using kent for a while now. So thats good but i do wonder what "else" kent and black diamond leach.

To be honest, when i get everything switched to sps only and lps only tanks i dont think i will be running carbon like i am now.

If you use Ozone you still need carbon on your skimmer output to make sure it doesn't get back in your tank.

There is always UV if you don't want carbon.

I may just light the 125 FO and turn it into my softie tank.

Yea but not near as much as normally needed.Uv doesnt clear up the water like carbon or ozone does.

IMO the P in carbon is simply from the fact that it was once living. Since it's charcoal it leaches ash as well. Also IMO skimming removes basically the same thing's, so I rely on that.

Used kent reef carbon for years. Never had any issues. Wouldn't run a tank without it and ozone......

I suppose that the extra Phosphate from the carbon would be taken up by phyto and bacteria perty quick,... The skimmer could pull that stuff out. I am far less worried about Phosphate that the skimmer can take out than Iron that it can't.

Maybe I will just chuck some in there on the skimmer output and see how it goes.

Thanks,
Whiskey

Iron doesnt concern me one bit good water changes get that out before it can build to amount to anything and it doesnt fuel the bad stuff near as fast as pho which is what you should be concerned about.

Not that I'm recommending the GFO, but from everything I've read skimming removes plenty of iron. It's used by bacteria and phyto too. I mean it's in addatives, it's in food, it comes out of my calcium reactor.
