Need help...will this work?

Hey Now all,

I just set up a 30breeder(36x18x12) tank last week. I have 35 pounds of cured sulawesi live rock. I have two maxi 1200's in the rear corners blowing the bottom so all detritus is pushing to the front for easy siphoning. I have been blowing the rocks with a turkey baster every day. So it looks like I will be cooking the rocks in the tank. The tank is only housing one dottyback and that will be it.
I have two precision marine HOT-1 skimmers hanging on the back. They use maxi 1200's and are rated for up to 50 gallons. No sump. I am also running a whisper 80gph power filter just housing carbon.
Ok...so...the question I have is...will this setup work?
The heavy detritus piles in the front in two neat piles. And it does seem the lighter detritus which stays in the water column gets sucked up into the two maxis running the pm skimmers.
What do you guys think about all this?

thanks!

take care,
Jared

I think that you should add a little more flow to help get some more of the deatris up into the skimmers. A pair of Seio 820's would be great if you plan to go with a SPS domonated tank.

I have never seen, or used the skimmers you speek of, so maybe somebody else can comment on them. Do you have them running wet?

I tried to use 4 MJ 1200's in my 50 gallon tank at first, played with them for a month or two, then just gave up and put a seio 1500, seio 820, and seio 620 in my tank. I don't regret adding the flow it made my life a lot easer.

I agree. Maxijets are good, reliable pumps, but have become somewhat obsolete with the advent of Streams and Seios. If you're keeping SPS, you'd be hard pressed to have too much flow. Just make sure nothing is getting constantly battered by heavy flow. If you can keep most of the detritus suspended, more of it will reach the skimmer. This means less time in the tank and less urgency to siphon regularly. Of course it does mean that your skimmer must be capable of processing what you're giving it. I am unfamiliar with your skimmers as far as not ever having used one of them.

thanks!

Thanks for the response guys.

Details on the skimmers here.

Thanks for the suggestions on going with seios. I will pick a few of tem up. The thing I love about the 30 breeder is that the far back rear corners where the seos will go isnt really noticable. So two 820s should suffice? I have some LPS in there right now...a few acan echinatas,caulastrea...too much flow for them if I put teh seios in there?

thanks!

take care,
jared

Well the seio's will bring you up to 54X in tank turnover. That plus the MJ's and your sump return and skimmers it should be plenty, but you could always go for the 1100's and dial them down if you need to sps love flow.

My LPS are hidden in little nooks so they don't get blasted by flow (they love it there), you would likley have to do that with yours as well.
