My new BB 90

Ive already posted these on my other build thread.....jsut thought i would post some here as many of you dont visit elsewhere on the site.

Just started up my new BB 90. CLS with an OM -8-way powered by a sequence dart. Tank is set up with a completely external coast to coast overflow, as well as the only plumbing visible are the omniflex nozzles. Enitire inside of the tank is for rock and life with no overflows or plumbing in the way. I have it set up flow wise that i never have to siphon anything. I built one of my invisible rock lifts out of 3/4" hdpe and everything gets blown to the sump eventually and cannot settle anywhere in the tank.

Rocks been in the tank for a week and a half and i just have begun adding a few of my stonies that have temporarily been in my 225 awaiting this build to be done. Have about 10 of my least favorite frags in there at the moment making sure everything is A-ok before i start moving the good stuff.

I am going to be running a little growth experiment with 10k xm's on one side and 15k xm's on the oth, with frags of the same mother in similar placements on each side of the tank. We all know which ones should grow better but im not convinced the difference will be that much.....so im proving it for myself.

Its a Euroreef......i think cs82 but not positive....i picked it up used from a guy who was running it on his 180 and liked it.......i like my asm and it is pretty much the same skimmer with nicer acrylic...havent had it going long enough or with any kind of load yet to see if i like it..im sure it will be fine.

You must have tremendous flow in that tank, huh? I can't imagine anything (detrius) having a remote chance of staying. Very nice!!

Thanks Bill and Viv. : )

Viv, there isnt as much flow as you think. 42x or so turnover Im guessing. There is a TON of head with that OM and all of that plumbing...........But it is well planned flow, which can do more than 100x turnover for your system if you dont think about HOW you achieve the 100x turnover.

I MAY go for a bigger pump than that Dart to be honest..........Ill let it run for a couple of months and see...........

You have come a long way from when we first met! looking great. I like the plumbing you have there too. so i assume with the flow you have that you can strip paint with that thing too?

Seems like a well-planned system. I'm curious how it will develop Interesting experiment with the lights, I will follow this thread to see the results. I'm experimenting a lot with different bulbs and K's at the moment.

SPS system is full speed ahead

Looks great Fly! I forgot, do you have a CA reactor on this tank? If so, do you have any PH issues?

I am asking because I think I remember that you had one, I also know that you haven't been using it because the tank was running without corals, so I was hoping you could tell me how much of a difference in PH you had between running and not running the CA reactor.

Thanks,
Whiskey

Well...heres a update and some pics. I had a couple of incidents.

One......i used rowaphos for the first time on this tank.....not becasue of any other reason than i am silly. I didnt have any nuisance algae issues....i just wasnt pleased with some coloration and i wanted to see if it would change anything.....it did...i burnt the tips of several corals......never had that happen in any of my dsb systems in the past. I used a tiny amount but thats what happened just the same. Made me wonder how unheatlhy the stuff might have been in my dsb tanks but just couldnt tell. Regardless..no more rowa for me in any of my tanks.

two.......i allowed my alkalinity to get up to 14-15 for a bit.....im not usre how long...a few days anyway. Had some bleaching possibly related to that or maybe just lights. I typically shoot for 10-12 in my dsb tanks but i believe that is too high foir this bb system. i have it down to 8 and am keeping it there.

I have also reduced my MH photoperiod to 5.5 hours and am runing actinics for 12. Im not loving some of the colors that are developiong.....but some of them are good. So im just letting everything ride and not messing with anything at the moment. We will see what transpires with the changes i have already made.

here is a couple of 1/2 tank shots. macrolens cant do any better than that in one pic. I have taken ten corals or so out of this tank and back to the 225 mixed dsb system. I didnt like what i was seeing so i put them back in there and will let the ones that remain ride and see how they do.

I will follow this with a bunch of recent pics. Some of which i think look good......some of which i dont love the colors of.......but again.....enough changes have taken place and i am going to see what happens
