Next, I got some drop cloth and 2 cans of glossy black for my back ground.

End result after actually using 1.25 cans.

Then I assembled my 2 durso stand pipes and then mocked the overflow up.

Still have to get the slots cut on the top, cement the two bottom 90 degree elbows to the stand pipes, and seal the overflow to the glass. Not bad for a day's work.

Very sweet, it is really comming along. I have always used silicone for gluing my acrilic baffles in my glass sump, and it works fine. I am sure it will also work for gluing in your overflow. To make a clean joint, take masking tape and run it up the glass and overflow about 1/4-1/2 inch from the joint, then put the silicone all the way up on the masking tape, then peel the tape off while the silicone is still wet, this will give you an even silicone edge.

BTW don't glue the stand pipes to the 90's or you will never be able to get them out if you need to get in there. Just push the stand pipes in, and if there is a smal leak it is no big deal because the piping is inside the tank.

No problem, make sure you run a bead of silicone on the outside and inside of the overflow too.

Had the overflow knotched, silconed in, and worked on some of the plumbing. Still waiting for rock, skimmer, and pumps before moving on to the sump. - Bob

Very nice, it is really comming along.

One tip though, make sure you leave it so the bulkheads can be removed if need be (use threaded ones not glue in), sometimes they leak.

Very impressive. I must say, when I first started reading this and found that you were going to drill your own tank, I thought it was gonna turn out like crap but I must say, I am very impressed. I am glad you went with the center overflow vs. the dual overflows. I think dual overflows is too much in a smaller tank.

What lighting are you planning?

Thanks,
Mike

*ps just noticed this thread is old...lol Any updates?

I'm back! No, the tank was never finished. I moved it upstairs for safekeeping until I could gather parts and ultimately move into a house. I figured it would be a nightmare to get it up and running and then move.

Good news is I've reopened the project and we close on a new home where I can show case it as of Feb 15th. So I dusted off the diagrams and started pricing things again as it's been just about a year since we left off. Good news is it looks like PMs Bullet 1 with a stand will fit with an external pump nicely under the stand and next to the sump.

Before we move I'm going to spend my time getting caught up with the workings of a BB tank so I won't sound so uneducated when I've got hands on.
