Keeping nitrates in check?

Tank has been set up for about a week and although I don't have a nitrate test I'm concerned that I might have elevated nitrates. what can I do to keep these down?

rock was cooked 8 months

EZ If it were me..

I would make sure that my flow is getting as much stuff to my skimmer as possible, that my skimmer was wet skimming and removing the particles from my tank without the help of filter-socks, I would continue to blow my rocks off, and like Steve said I would siphon and siphon some more.

There is not much more you can or need to do.

Ok, I only have a pair of clowns in there and am starting to add some corals. I don't have any socks at the moment.

I think I might just have a mini-cycle or nothing at all. rock has been cooked for 8 months, will I still have a cycle?

I will siphon and make sure flow kicks everything up
