So I have the 1/2" long legs and on top of that the egg crate. No need to glue anything.

That sounds simple. Maybe I'll go ahead and try that first and see how I like it. Is the PVC capped so detritus doesn't get trapped inside?

I just grabbed two 5' pieces of 1/2 pvc, a bag of caps, a bag of elbows, and a bag of T's from Lowes. Then I cut a bunch of 2" pieces of pvc and several 5" lengths. The 2" pieces form the legs and the 5" pieces are the girders. I'm not sure what else to call the 5" pieces. Basicaly it looks like a table without the top.

I did not cap the PVC, I made some cutouts on the side that will be resting on the glass so the debry can come out. The cutouts are about 1/2" long but I think they should be longer because there is still stuff in getting in the PVC.
