Thanks. And, I am so glad they're gone!

I've heard that some of those mutant reds will survive months of rock cooking, they are so tough.

This is what the tank looked like only four weeks ago.

The Virgatus Rabbitfish, Siganus virgatus (in the picture, above, on the right), ate most of it. Rabbitfish are just algae-eating machines.

One of the lfs down here had about six, little, baby Doliatus Rabbitfish, Siganus doliatus, in stock today. It was the first time I'd seen a Doliatus for sale at a lfs. They were so cute. I wanted to take all six of them home with me.

Doliatus Rabbitfish are more attractive than Virgatus, but I was desperate to get rid of the algae, so I didn't want to wait for a Doliatus to become available. Either fish is an excellent choice if you wish to rid your tank of algae.

Let's try this again:

500g barebottom. Running continuously since 1996. And two days.

...That's better.

Very nice 64Ivy, since you have been BB since the 70's (I think) do you have any words of wisdom for us?

Thanks,

I know. That's exactly what I wanted it to say in this case. Now, whether this qualifies a 'wisdom', I'm not sure but I've never been ashamed to say 'I just don't know'. And in regards to this hobby, I've come to realize that there's quite a bit that I might not EVER know. Why? Because One: Sometimes the 'experts' don't know. And Two: Because, unfortunately, a lot of the information that DOES become available is based upon either agenda or ego rather than science. Therefore, what I choose to do is simply let my experiences dictate what will or will not work for me. For instance, I know barebottom works for me. Not because an expert told me or because it's "in" right now. I know it does because...I know it does! But do I know why? Not really. Do I care? Heck yeah, as long as I'm getting clear, objective information. What I WON'T do is let myself get caught up in a flame war about it though. What 28 years has taught me is if someone else says that their Upside Down DSB Plenumed/BB Slo-Flow Refugium with a Skimmer full of Cat's Eye Marbles System works for them (until some else tells them it doesn't), fine and dandy with me. I'm sticking with what I've got. It's what I know.

I don't htink that it could have been said any better. Do what works for you there is no wronf way to set up a tank IMO. Many different ways to skin a cat.

I used to but have since yanked it. It was not benefiting the tank and macro would not grow at all in it. I noticed it would not grow macro when I upgraded my skimmer.

I found the same thing, that is why I am curious why 64Ivy still runs one. I am also curious about his skimmer, I tried searching the internet for the skimmer's name and all I found were places where he said he ran one, Totm, his web page, ect. It looks like a monster.
