High in Zone 1

I'm falling high in zone 1-high alk and Ca. Accordingly I'm suppose to wait for the two to fall into the red box (Randy Holmes-Farley's 2002 Advanced Aquarist Online article dealing with Calcium and alkalinity problems). So the question is, how long should it take to fall? Ca. 480, but the alk is above 7 If I do water changes the salt just brings the alk back up again. I increased the wet skimming and took the top off my sumps to increase the air circulation. ?Increased water agitation should bring down the alk, correct? Is there something else I can do?

I had a similar problem. I think the rate that it falls will be dependent on how much of each gets used. My tank is very lightly stocked so it took a while. Actually the Alk is till a bit high...If you have lots of stony corals it should drop fast. As for the agitation to lower alk....I am not to sure about. Sorry I am not much help....but thought you might like to know someone else has been there. On the bright side this zone isn't as bad as the others! I don't think it will have any real negative affects on anything in your tank.

Everything is doing ok, just waiting, and testing, and waiting, and testing...as you said, it could be worse...just don't want to have the corals exposed to a high alk for too long a time...concerned about alk burn. Do you think they'll burn?
