Help me tune in my MRC-2

I got a MRC-2 with a gen-x 55

Its my first REAL skimmer and I need to know how to tune it in. I was told to start it up with the air cloed and slowly let air it until ???????

that's what I need to know.

I would like to run it wet and skim as much as possible

My approach, with my PM Bullet 3, was to start with the air input all the way open (the only restriction being a cotton ball to eliminate the whistle).

Then, I use the gatevalve on the skimmer’s output pipe to adjust the level where mostly water transitions to mostly foam. This is, typically, just a couple inches below the top of the skimmer neck. The idea is to have no dry foam head. When bubbles pop, they just splatter particulates on the walls of the collection cup.

This seems to be the most effective way to remove particulates from the water.

My MR-2 took a couple weeks to break in. Follow the Directions Andy sends with the unit for the break in process. Once its done , then you make very small adjustments about every 12 to 24 hours. Dont try to do the initial tuning when you do other changes to the tank like a water change. I also have the PCX-55 and its a great set up. Get that monster broke in then start the tuning game. All tanks are different and all skimmers react differently to each tank so what works for one may not work exactly for you. Take your time and be VERY patient. Once you get it tuned itll blast the poop right off of the atoms! Oh, Andy at MRC has awesome customer service, he returns e-mails quickly and will help you out on the phone even!
