hair algae, cooking time

ok, jumping on. I've been running nearly bare bottom (theres about a 1/4 inch here and there cause I didn't get it ALL out) for... 6 months.
my only issues: what will live and what will die? and how do I get my midas blenny out of the rocks? ACK!

I'm assuming your going to say set up a ten gallon or such, but... will a coral beauty live happily for 2 months in a ten gallon with no rocks? my zoanthids would have to go there too, my anemones (tube and rock-how do I get the rock off of the rock? peel it off?)

shoot, mushroom too-but thats replacable, right?

will a really cool green encrusting sponge live though the ordeal? emerald mithrax crab? hermits? turbo snails? I can grab most everything out but the mithrax, and the blenny! do you think having one semi-large rock (ten lbs) in a ten gallon with 2 turbos be ok while cooking the rest of the rock, that way my blenny, mithrax, and angel will be ok?

wow, lots and lots of questions.

I just hopped on too. I had a dinoflagellates outbreak and my sump cracked. This all happened within a few days of each other. I still had my old/spare 55 gal tank in the garage so i set that up for a few days to prepare a new temporary home for my live stock (various snails and corals, 1 hippo tang, 1 powder brown tang, 1 black sailfin blenny, and a pair of perc clowns) All of those in a 55 gal was kind of worrying me a bit but when i got them in there they seemed fine. I have my 55 set up like a prop tank with egg crate shelves and live rock rubble i picked up.

I'm thinking your angel will be fine. Just be sure to have something for it to hide in and claim it their's.

ok, started today, but I have one rock left (and couldn't find many hermits )
its the rock with the rock anemone on it. I can't get the stinker off. what should I do? right now I have a powerhead aimed at it, but that isn't going to get it off the rock, is it? just move it...
ideas?

nad I hope an emerald will live through this, I haven't seen him

just put it in the tank with the rest of the corals. raise it up a bit so that the detritus will fall out of it and siphon it up during water changes. you can cook LR in a tank as long as it is all raised up and plenty of flow to keep any more detritus from accumulating on it. it will just take longer in the tank.

maybe move the rock around every few days. eventually the anemone may move. not sure this would be a good thing depending on the other critters in the tank.

the biggest wrench would be the anemones . everything else would do fine in subdude lighting or ambient lighting .

you may just have to chip of a piece of the rock with the anemone still attached .

well, its done
I already had to keep one big rock because of the midas blenny: I'm thinking the turbos will help take care of it. The tube anemone needs NO lightling at all, the rock minimal. think: it moved itself to the face of a rock, where zoanthids didn't even really like to live.

I would have done it in tank, but the tank is disgustingly gross, and needs to be vinegared out. quite nasty! So now I have a ten gallon that looks GREAT, even though my poor angel is feeling cramped. I put a mesh top on for a few days for him to get used to smaller quarters.

now, I'm feeling the itch with my tank empty: bigger tank? plumbing? who knows. 2 months to stare at naught will make it better, right?
