Green algae
Ok, so I let the tank go for a week...I had reasons...anyway I now can get back to reefkeeping and find the tank has a hard green algae that has coated the corners of the tank...I've done water changes but can't seem to get it fully off - its like it was imbedded in the glass. Will the renewal of good water kill the remainder off?

Could it be some kind of Corraline? You might just need to scrap it off.

I'm working on it daily, stuff is really difficult to remove...if its coralline, I grow lots of it, mostly green and difficult to get rid of...I've had spots of pink and purple coralline and this is kinda like that-it doesn't grow hair and certainly isn't soft...why would it be green?

I have quite a few different colors of it, too. If it doesn't rub off w/ a toothbrush or grow hair, it's probably corraline.

Have you tried scraping it off with a razorblade (Assuming you have a glass tank) I have stuff that growes on my glass that sounds like exactally what your talking about and a razor blade is about all I can use to get it off.

Holy cow! It must be coralline! I've always thought I couldn't grow the stuff...I have it all over and its green. I have gotten rid of most of it on the glass-extra tough workout on the biceps,lol...it coats the rocks in layers like pink coralline that I have seen, you know like sheets on top of sheets, but its always been green. Just recently, like over the past 6 mos or so have I developed area's of pink, about the size of a dime....the purple looks more like the rock has turned purple-it not a covering, just looks like the rock in areas is a purple color...so a question, does different coralline grow differently and why different colors? I imagine its got something to do with what the makeup of the rock is, in certain areas-but is there any information or research regarding different types of coralline and why there are different colors? This is sooooooo cool, I can't believe I've been looking at green coralline all this time! I've really felt like a failure-can keep fish and some coral alive but can't for the life of me grow coralline...it's a very happy day!

Some coralline covers, some is flaky, some grows in plates. Just different types. Same with the colors.

Wooo Hooo, Viv! That is so neat that what you thought was a pest, is really something nice. Great to read this thread, too.
