Genx PCX 55 + bullet 2?
A friend is willing to sell me a GenX PCX 55 pump for cheap and I want to know if I can use it with the Bullet 2. It pumps 1140GPH and is capeable of 26 foot head, it has a 1 inch in and out.
The PM websight lists the PCX 40 and Iwalkia 55 as good pumps and the Genx 55's numbers are really close to the Iwakia 55's but I want to think what you think.
My friend gave me the pump to try whenever I get the skimmer, but if it won't work I would like to know now so I can order a diffrent pump when I have the $ for the skimmer.
Thanks,
Whiskey

An add on question:
Is there any reasion why I should get the PM bullet 2 over the MRC MR-2? I have been looking at both and they seem exactally the same, except the MRC is about $60 cheaper, and has a really cool quick releace cup, so you don't have to take all the thumb screws off to clean it. Plus the MRC is expandable, so I can later add 2 beketts, or make it taller and turn it into the MR-3. That seems like a better deal to me.
Thanks,
Whiskey

Both the skimmers are comparable but I can't see paying more for the PM over the MRC. Plus, the customer service from Andy is awesome, as well as his products.
The PCX 55 is a good match for the Bullet 2 or MR-2. Go for it, and enjoy.

Where would you guys reccomend getting the MR-2 from? Directally from the MFG? It looks like they have a good ordering system there, where I can select to have the "quick disconnect" option (I really want that). I have not seen it any cheaper anywhere else.
Would you reccomend getting any other options?
Thanks,
Whiskey

I have a recirculating needle wheel, it is not doing the job. I know a Bullet/MR 2 will and I don't want to take any chances with my $500
Thanks,
Whiskey

So...
I wish I didn't go with the quick release. It's real hard to get the torque on the union to take it off so I end up using the thumb screws. Plus I don't have to take it apart that often because I run it wet and it stays clean. I like the idea that it adds 2" but I hate not being able to see behind it... ...I need to see where my solid column starts.
IMO the 2nd becket is not worth it unless you are using 2 pumps. The only thing a 2nd becket does is allow more air. Me personally, I am only pushing a little air, the 2nd injector would make it much harder for fine adjustments.
redwinger congrats on the rock cooking, it took awhile to break you. Maybe someday you will see the light on the skimmers..
I'm curious, have you ever ran a becket wet with a pressure rated pump?

So, if you had to do it over would you get the quick release or not? I also like the added 2 inches, and feel that is a big benifit even if I can't use the releace for it's intended purpose.
How often do you have to fiddle with your skimmer adjustment? Does it perty much stay set, or do you have to change the setting daily?
Where did you buy your skimmer?
I don't plan on getting the second becket right now, but it is nice to know I have the option if I need it later, and the fact that they sell extention tubes to turn this into the "3" is a big plus.
Do you think I should get the ozone port? I don't plan on using ozone ever, but down the road who knowes?
Thanks,
Whiskey

No schwag, no breaking was needed I have done it in the past just not for the display, when I set it up originally I wasn't aware of rock cooking and have been looking for a excuse to do it. No light to see on the skimmers here. I have allready seen it. Maybe someday I will try one but I highly doubt it. I can run my needlewheel as wet as I want and as the old saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it. It is kind of the old age debate recirc or beckett no one way is right and no one way is wrong.

No, no, If you were to buy your skimmer again, would you still get the quick disconnect, I like the idea of the extra couple inches.
Would you get the ozone injection port installed just in case you ever decide to use it?
Most importantly how often do you have to adjust your skimmer? Does it perty much stay set, or do you have to adjust it every day?
Thanks,
Whiskey
