o.k. update time . things have been going really well since the removal of 90 or so pounds of live rock . a few days after the make-over i took a nitrate reading and got about 10 p.p.m. which was higher than before the rock removal , but expected , now it has dropped down to somewhere around 5 p.p.m. , so a good sign there . also i took some of the other readings to compare , as follows .
ca. pre-removal , level maintained steady between 380-400
ca. post-removal , level has climbed to 420 . this is with no adjustments to the kalk dosing routine .
alk. pre-removal , maintained at 7dkh
alk. post-removal. 8dkh
mag.pre-removal, maintained itself between 1100-1200
mag. post-removal . around 1350 . ( don't know why this jumped so much as when i removed the rock i only added about 6 gallons back to the system to make up for the displaced water , this is about the same amount during a normal w.c. )
p.h. - no change .
its obvious that the rock placed a good demand on the elements , probally not as much as a dsb but still had an effect . the corals have responded nicely to the change , with p.e. that i haven't seen in a while , though that may have to do with the more unrestricted flow and better lighting coverage . so here go the pics .
