Coming back to BB

My last tank was a 190 mixed reef BB.. had some flow issues but corals did great. just set up a 315 84x36x26 and i wanted to put in a SSB cause i like it and wanted a shark and ray... well corals do not look as good, and water is just not clear.. i have iwaki 70 return with two eductors and sequence 4200 CL pump. i dont have sand on the 1.5' sid eof the tank oposite the overflow. its pennisulla style.. so thinking of going back to my old plan of iwaki 100 with 4 eductors on a CL... and sequence 3200 return pump.. and NO SAND>. lots of flow and hope that my poylps extend further and my sofites look better and water gets clearer... so... sound like a plan to you?

so whats the best way to get the SSB out??? what have you all found is the easiest.... 3/4 of my tank is 1" sand and the other 1/4 is BB already from flow blowing it back....

I would siphon it out slowly. Not all at once.

The best way would be to empty the tank out.....as you do this you can salvage any water(if you want) up until the point that you disturb the sandbed.

Thats a pretty big tank and if you had the space in tubs it would be mush less risky on your corals to take them out of the tank than stirring up your sandbed and making them sit in it

Then take a strong shop vac and whip the rest out fairly quyickly

Trying to siphon out your sandbed would be a huge waste of time and unecessary risk IMO.

Just have enough new ASW to temp on hand and ready for the little project to make up for what water you toss in the process.
