Closed Loop too much?

Alright, I'm sold on the BB idea and have just finished plumbing by CLM with a Dart.

Its on a 65 gal acrylic and I have 6 nozzles and when I fired that baby up man did it move some water. Now I'm wondering if it will be too much. I have no rock in yet (still cooking; 8 months now) and so maybe that will break it up some.

here's the specs:
Dart plumbed with 1 1/2" PVC throughout CLM with a head loss of about 24".

anyone know what that brings the GPH to?

thanks, BTW I have a ball valve on it in case I need to slow it down, doubt I will though. Darts can handle back pressure right?

Add rock and that will slow it down bigtime.

Too much flow can be detrimental to your BB tank if your skimmer can't remove the particles.

See how well your skimmer clears up your tank of floating particles to see if you have too much flow. It's almost better to be able to let stuff settle in a pile so you can siphon if your skimmer can't remove it.

Also you can use filter socks () to remove particles, but I believe that the stuff breaks down very very quickly in a high flow area. If it was me, I would wash and change them daily.

as of right now this tank is just getting set up, so my skimmer isn't even connected yet. hopefully tomorrow. My skimmer is an MRC-2 with a 55 pcx gen-x pump so I think this will all work out.

any thoughts

The important thing is that the particles are reaching the overflow in an effective manner, once that's down, you should be good to go.

Darts, can not handle back pressure. these are high flow low pressure pumps. not a big deal with such a short head height.

here is the pump curve for the dart. just match the curve to your head height and you will have the gph at that head pressure.

What size intake are you using on the Dart?

I am using the 2" to 1 1/2" reducer on the intake with 1 1/2" PVC all the way thru the CLM maximizing the flow at the ball valve and the turns.
