Best method to prevent a LRslide (landslide)?
I am setting up a 110 which is 30 in tall. I have about 400lbs of LR that has been curing in a tub for the past 4 months - I know I wont need all of it. I want to build a live rock "tower" around the overflow that stretches from the top to the bottom of the tank. Is there any way I can secure this without killing my live rock (keeping it out of the water for more than a couple of hours)? Thanks

Peg the rocks together.....drill 3/8" holes in each piece and use rigid airline to peg them together.

Rigid airline can bend quite a bit if your stacking a number of heavy items (it's only 3/16", at least what Ive used). I drilled my rocks and slid 3/8" acrylic and fiberglass rods through them, and I have 4 or 5 stacks about 20" high. Works like a champ.

You can get acrylic rods real cheap on ebay... I think I got around 40 feet of 3/8" diameter for ~$20.
Fiberglass are a little easier to come by (and sturdier), go to home depot and look near the mail boxes. They have fiberglass poles with reflectors on them, and the ones I got are 3/8" diameter. I think they were $5 for a 4 foot pole, and easily cut with a hack saw.

I said no such thing!!!
I actually do use it on smaller rocks for frags, and it's great for moving them around as needed. But for structural support, I wouldnt trust airline tubing (unless there is a 3/8" airline, but I've never seen it).

I've got some pretty large pieces of LR. I guess I would need an extension to drill all the way through? The fiberglass rods at home depot sounds like a great idea. How long are they?

4 feet for those rods, but you could probably make 3 stacks with each rod. If your tank is only 20 or 24" long, you'll probably want a 16" long rod for each one in order to ensure the rock isnt too tall (and the top rock won't be drilled all the way, or else the rod would stick out the top!) I was able to use a 6" drill bit (just have to find some of the smaller areas of the rock), but you could get a 12" bit and I'm sure it would be fine.

Try some plastic coat hangers...a package of ten is cheap at the dollar store.
