BB + temp swing = ?

I have been neglecting my tank all summer (never looked better) so it was no surprise that I let it go from 78 to 85 over night last week. I had no losses, no bleaching, no obvious stress, nothing. I even waited a bunch of days to post this so that I was 100% sure.

I remember reading these posts where people seem to lose a lot of things when they have a large temp swing. I want to add that I have a pretty (very?) large "bioload" and that I have ATLEAST a 4 degree temp swing daily.

Was I just lucky, are people crazy when they say temp swings are deadly, or did my BB system save me?

It happens now and then...if it happens on a regular basis you will see problems with your stonies.

BB had nothing to do with it IMO.

a 4 degree temperature swing is pretty common with anyone not using a temperature controller or usinga temp controller that isnt all that great. I just a few months ago fixed the 4 degree swings on my tanks and i cant tell that a 2 degree max swing helps any more than a 4 degree swing but i sure like looking at those numbers a lot more.

You know, a few weeks a go the AC in the office where I have my tank broke, as far as I know the water temp climmed to 84deg, after I took most of my stuff home there was a few things left in the tank, after five days the AC was fixed and the small piece of SPS, zoas and my feather duster were ok, this make me question my decision of moving my stuff to the house to a confortable 78degree air temperature.
I know if I had not move them and they have die I would have been very upset.

I wonder how much of a temp swing there is when the stonies are exposed to the sun at low tide.

It may be that coral's that are used to very little temp swing, wich is unnatural for them, will be the ones to have the problem's when it occurs. If the tank.

it also might have to do with oxygen content in the water . the a.c. went out but all your pumps were still running so you still had good saturation .
i'll bet if the power was out and the temp climbed to 84 you would be telling us a different story !
i know that the water temp in the reef pond outside has been hitting almost 92 and the fish don't seem to care either way . i was told you can't keep them alive when the water goes over 85 . i attribute it to running the wet dry set-up on it , keeping the water saturated with oxygen . now if it was a fairly stagnent pond , i'm sure i would not even be telling you this !

You micro manage every little invertebrate in your tank, but let your tank swing 7 degrees? Wheres your fan?

P.S. You left your girls shirt in my mailbox. I see the mailman wearing it from time to time.

Well , I know I have posted here that my tank was running for days at 85, Chiller broke and I waited for a new one, I had nothing happen to the tank. Everything was ok, I know now that I don't worry about it like I use to, I also think temp swings are pretty normal.
