BB Tank - Light SPS adn no Coraline?
I am wondering if something is connected here.
My SPS are faded (trying to feed a little more) and I can not seem to get coraline to grow on the rock. The little thats on the glass is almost white and doesn;t last long.
CA 420
Alk 11.2 DKH
Sal 1.025
PH 8.1-8.3
Temp 79
Nitrate, Ammon, PO4, Silicate - 0
Any ideas?

i got about the same lights.. except non hqi 14k SE and 2 110w vhos..
some of my corraline does that too, the light purple stuff doesnt make it long in my tank. the darn maroon shelfing stuff however loves the extra light.
my wifes tank has beautiful corraline.. i could only wish mine was the same, and its some of the same rock! she has waaaaay less light then me.. by like 400 watts

Does your Ca and Alk fluctuate alot? If he's able to hold Ca and Alk at those values, I don't think Mg is a problem. What test kit are you using for PO4?

My understanding is that if magnesium levels are high it inhibits (“hampers”) abiotic calcification. High magnesium interferes with precipitation and deposition of calcium carbonate. This allows calcium and carbonate ions to remain in solution and be available to animals which use it.
The biggest problem with low magnesium is that it’s becomes increasingly difficult to maintain calcium and carbonate levels in the water, so you have to dose more, and clean calcium carbonate deposits off your pumps and heaters more often. Other than that, magnesium is available in such large quantities that whether you have 1100 ppm or 1400 ppm isn't a big deal.
Here’s a good overview of the role of magnesium in our tanks.

i think you all are chasing numbers again.
turn your skimmer down a bit, run it a little dryer see if that helps.

Maybe it is interesting to know what your bioload is... Light SPS can be a cause of a too sterile tank. (see other thread)

Light LPS
No coraline on the rock. This is why I am concerened.
The Alk/CA dont fluctuate that much with the reactors tuned in.
Mag is 1300

PO4 test is Salifert
No algae present so I dont think its a PO4 problem. I hope.

How many hours of light per day?Photo period?
Too much light will inhibit coraline growth.

I was running the Actinics for 12 hours and the MH for 8
I have lowered (over the past 2 weeks) to Actinics to 10 hours and the MH for 6.
