BB, Rock Lifts and Detrius - Problem?

I have noticed recently that my BB tank with rock lift has an interesting issue. Any detrius that is trapped under the acrylic has turned green, red or purple. I pull out as much of this as possible during water changes. What remains has recently began to swell and ooze out from under the acrylic. While it is easy to get out, I wonder if there are any problems in the tank or caused by this.

The color change is most likely the algae you see under the sand bed.

I dont know how exactly you do your BB lifts, but the HS is common, the funky ooze you mention I think I might be familiar with although I have no idea what exactly it is. Its like this creature that wants to take over the world. Mine was orange and green and grew super fast when the starboard lifted up a bucnh and I couldnt get it back in place. It would easily vac out but grew quick

That has been my only concern about using starboard for a bare bottom tank is what happens if something does accidentally get under there? Is there a chance of it crashing the entire system?
