Question

BB and Nassarius Snails???

Hello Guys;
I just had a quick question...
I'm redoing my 28 gal. and was considering going BB, However I have Nassarius Snails in my tank and was wondering if they can live in a BB tank?
Since they won't be able to burry themselves?

Thanks for your input .

yes they can live fine, although I honestly cannot see a point to keeping them in a bb system. Same thing could be said for crabs.

Nassarius are scavengers. the whole point of a BB tank is the ability to get stuff out before it rots, and if you need scavengers like that to clean up excess scraps, there is something being missed in the set up and/or husbandry of your BB tank

Thumbs up

Bb

Hmmmmm,
If I decide to go the BB way I will probably give the snails away or keep them in a pico.
Just because they may be able to live without sand I don't think they should.
It's like the BETAS in stores. Just because they can live in tight spaces....... Well you get my drift.
Besides I don't know if they would get enough to eat without me overfeeding the tank.

Thanks Guys I appreciate you help.
Any input from people that have them with a BB??

rubberband some food to a rock might be an option for feeding.... if you can't catch them all easily you could use it as bait.

I can Catch em that is not a prob.
I just don't know if they "NEED" to bury in sand to survive.
Anyway; If it can't be done I'll have to have em in my pico, that's all.
Thanks guys.

When i tore down my tanks and added everything to the bare bottom tank i added my old nassuris snails. Its been awhile now, they are still alive, but i can tell by their alien faces they are not happy without the sand

I took the sand out of my tank over a year ago and my 2 nassarius snails seem fine - If they are telling me they are unhappy I haven't heard them
