i think you are right on this one lobster! i mixed up some today and the container got pretty warm . i went with 2 cups per gal as compared to the 2 1/2 cups in randys formula . are we suppose to let this stuff settle for any length of time , or is it good to use as soon as it cools down ?

I would not use it, only if i's grade A (laboratory) quality. Otherwise there can be impurities in it, like heavy metals.

while i can understand where you are coming from i don't think that people are having any problems from using some of the non- grade A calcium chloride mixes . also if one was to find some lab grade stuff , that my make it no more less expensive to use than an aquarium brand . and how do we know that the aquarium brands are anymore pure than dow flake , pooltime , all clear products ?

o.k. i got the msds sheets in the mail today for the pooltime stuff . it shows things a little different than what clockwork posted earlier though.
here is the break down.
calcium chloride - 75-97%
sodium chloride - 1-2%
potassium chloride - 2 - 3 %
water - 0-7 %
strontium chloride - 0-1%
so i'm guessin that it is repackaged dow flake also . think i need to go buy somemore !

May I ask those who are using a two part system why? Are there benefits as compared to Kalk?

Remember with Kalk you raise Ca & Alk at the same time. With 2 part you're able to tweak each individually. At least that's my main reason for using it.

Have you always used a two part system to dose your tank? If not, did you noticed changes when you switched from kalk to two part? Im' asking because I find I supplement to the kalk as although it may be balanced my tank is not always balanced.
