Another boring update...

Well maybe not as boring...

I figured out my prob with the OM4way..the drum was just stuck.. Paul at OM is great, and sent me a free drum that was a lil thinner so it will fit inside the 4way without resistance...this should solve the trick. I think the airbubbles are just coming from my return right now..I have the return coming from over the top of the tank and then pushing water straight down..only prob is I dont have a loc-line or anything connected ot the bulkheads so water is splashing and I can see a lot of large bubbles created...well, my CL intake is right under one of these returns, so it sucks lots of large bubbles which I would imagine the DART can chop up into finer bubbles and the cycle repeats... so once I get my locline I hopefully can eliminate the bubbles.

I have installed 2 of the 6100 tunze on the bottom back corners of the tank... I will still have a third 6100 closer ot the middle of the tank, and then 2 6200s on either top side of the tank... and then I can say I have enough flow for a SPS tank LOL

Anyone have tunzes in the back bottom? How do you hide them and how much room do you need to leave to clean them out? I guess as long as they fit so you can pull them out, that is all that matters. But **** they are bulky lol..

Even better news, I just picked up some SICK SICK SICK LR today from my transhipper.... guys, let me just tell ya this rock is unreal. I need to start selling it through my site. One of the pieces that came with it was HUGE... it makes my 180 look small LOL... luckily I was able to get it in one piece into the tank, but it had to weigh a good 30-35 lbs.. sweet center piece rock.

If any of you are looking for live rock, I cannot praise this rock anymore

Of course, with every new rock comes some crazy skimmer action, and my rps3000 seems to be holding its own for now...I have to drain the collection cup to a large bucket now, lets see how it looks in the morning.

Anyone know how I can safely cut 1/4in fiberglass rod?

there are no boring updates ! just maybe some not exciting updates ! i am thinking with that much flow you will be doing some cutting back when you get things growing ! are you sure your building a reef tank and not a jacuzzi for yourself !

oh as far as the tunzes in the bottom corners , do you mean like this ? i have a 6060 in each corner and they just sit there , no magnets or anything holding them , but they don't cycle off and on either . the lesson i learn from having them set-up this way in the 75 is make as easy to get them out as possible ( read :forget hiding them ) cause i hid them in the 75 and could not get them out without basically dismantaling the end rock work and that sucks when things start to grow and encrust !

You are really moving along, are you using that RPS 3000 just temporary or is it this tank's skimmer? From what I've read they pull about the air of a G3, and work about as well.

I keep drooling over those OM units, but have yet to actually take the dive into trying one out. I think the plumbing involved gives me the hebe jebies.

( I said hebe jebies)

If I were cutting fiberglass rod I would try a dremil with a cutoff wheel, don't forget the safety glasses.

Make the fiberglass wet when you're cutting it. It will prevent most of the (harmfull) glass-particles from flying around.

excellent tips my friends , excellent.. love this place... way better than that RC place...

Ok, I will make sure to leave room to get to the 6100s in the back....and try and forget hiding them... though I still think I could do it.. but not by piling rock on, just having it in front of the tunze.

I actually was going for a jacuzzi effect since my neck does hurt a lot, because this project has been a PAIN IN THE NECK lol...I will use the dremel with water on the fiberglass and safetglasses and gloves when I cut...**** I should give it to a professional to do shouldnt I?

On a sadder note, my nano at work is toast..I changed bulbs to ushio 14k from a burned out POS Coralvue 20k...I dont think ANY of the corals liked that... necrosis galore... time to make my 18gal nano a BB tank as well

BTW, yes, the RPS 3000 is temporary.. I am working on setting up my OWN line of protein skimmers available only through my site... they will incorporate a design from a few of the more expensive skimmers on the market today, with pump options of either cheap (sedra, Oceanrunner, aquabee) to more expensive (eheim, red dragon)....buddy of mine has one running already on his system and the eheims pull like 12-13 lpm...my RPS 3000 pump does around 6-7lpm... so yah, I know things can be IMPROVED... if you guys are in the market for a new skimmer... our custom skimmers will be something you might want to check out once available.
