Heck yea!

I cannot get over my water clarity after going BB, I love the clean look, everything stays in suspension (eductors rock).

Hello guys. My name is Luey and I am also a BB practicioner, until now I was not able to find a lot of info on BB tanks, all everyone said was that there was no substrate on them, finally a plece to call BB home. This is great.
I am just 6 months in to this BB experience, I Have a 20gal tank, no sump and a millenium HOB filter for circulation only, I put some carbon in it every month or so, I do not have a lot of flow yet, only about 300gph. I am finishing my close loop one of this days; it will be a mag5 and it should give me at least 400-450gph.
Need to upgrade my skimmer, I have a seaclone. As time and money permits I will do this. I am glad I can learn from you guys about the BB system.
See you around.

hi everyone,

i'm new here too. i go by detritivore on the other reef boards too. i must say, i like this forum a lot. hopefully, i'll find time to participate more often.

Just to reaffirm what countless others(SeanT, Bomber, et.al) have said before, I too want to share my experiences with BB in my 20 gallon. Keep in mind, when i converted to BB, i wasnt really educated in the process. i thought that all i had to do was remove the sand. So, i had to learn the hard way. Here are my experiences: First of all, you most definitely want to have a lot of flow and a strong skimmer. IMO, these two points are the "golden rules" of BB. Without either of these two, you will end up with a DSB(Detritus Sand Bed), which is also what happened to me(how ironic, im living up to my name ). Having a cleanup crew without flow and skimmer also doesnt help much too. They'll just poop and create more detritus. Also, if you are going to cook the rock, dont rush the process. Rushing it wont do it any good. Anyhow, that's what i've learned so far. Currently, i have my tank connected to a fuge with a DSB(Deep sand bed, this time), as i will be upgrading soon(hopefully) and i dont feel it is worth it to get a skimmer, better flow, etc. in the 20 gallon right now.

anyway, i look foward to learning with the rest of the community on TRT!

Hey, Sean. Cool idea, this. Looking forward to learning a lot even though I've been barebottom since the FIRST time it was cool (1978 )!
