algae in BB????? uh no!!

Ok, just about finished setting up my BB tank, after cooking rocks for 8 months and adding some New LR not much maybe 2 pieces. Its been running now for about 2-3 weeks. Its been running without a skimmer since I'm working the kinks out of the sump and such. I have a Dart on a CLM. Since setup I've been having brown algae on the glass and now I have little sprouts of what looks like green hair algae.

WHAT GIVES?

any advice?

Is it possible because I have so much new plumbing and a new acrylic tank that phosphate is leaching from the PVC and acrlyic and the cable ties (used to hold LR in place) and causing a phosphate spike?

I only have 3 fish in there so far pair of clarki and bi-color blenny

please help, I switched to get rid of algae not farm it out.

No the tank or plumbing, sounds like new tank syndrome why did you cook the rock then add new rock to seed it with algae spores?

The skimmer is the lifeblod of a BB tank, without it there is nothing to remove phospate. Every time you feed your fish, all that food stays in your system in one way or another fueling algae growth.

I agree. I had the same thing happen when I started my tank, there was brown wavy algae all over the place.

Skim! The fish poop is in there collecting and settling into your newly cooked rocks. Kinda making a good spot for an algae garden!

PVC will leach phosphates at first and it will eventually stop.

yeah, I guess I screwed up, although the new rock was cooked just not for as long. I think its the fish food with a combo of leaching phosphate. My skimmer is hopefully going to be up and running by tomorrow. The pump I have is a gen x-55 and the riser will not seat right so it will not leak, I've tried the teflon tape, the cheap paste and tomorrow I get the expensive slow dry paste to end all.

hope this works

I think the skimmer will help a lot.

ez is it the "o" ring?

Mine leaked a lot from the quick-release until I used silicone grease to stop it.
