advice on arranging rock

i'd like to copy a long distance neighbor of mine in Ok. by using a "tower" for rock. think it'd be ok with a spray bar at the back of my tank?

Detritus will collect along the pipe if it rests directly on the bottom. Try to have only points on the bottom so that detrius will not settle under you rock tower. Same with the spray bar. It will look very nice

thats what i was worried about, i know i have issues now with the points of rock touching the bottom sometimes. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to "float" the rock. LOL What method do you use?

You could use a coupling and a piece of acrylic drilled to the same diameter of the pipe to adjust the rock so it is above the sand, but I think that having the rock above the sand gives more places for detritus to hide were we can't see it and remove it, But thats my 2-cents worth.

Well I'm sorry you don't have sand but the first part of the post would take care of lifting the rock off of the BOTTEM of the tank !! But Happy Holidays!!!!

Spray Bar?

A spray bar is an outlet for your return pump or filtration system. Typically they are PVC or other plastic, with several holes drilled in them, so that the water returning to the tank is more of a "spray".

My tank has a spray bar just under the water surface, with 8 holes, 1" apart, aimed up at the surface. I get a lot of surface agitation that way. Very nice, IMO.

I use peices of cut up plastic coat hangers. I cut in 2-3'' sections drill each piece of rock 1'-1 1/2 deep so I can have more stacking options insted of having to go straght up and for lifts I just drill half way trough the rock in as many places it takes to support the pillar and cut the peices of coat hanger to to sit eaven and put in holes.

rearrangement

Well, i've moved some rock around. The rock on the far left has a pvc pipe through it and a zippy strip holding it up to the side. From what i've read on sps threads, i need my rock lower than verticle like it is now. But i can't put it all on the floor or i'd have detritus build up.

Which brings me to my other issue, my spray bar keeps plugging up, i need something that i don't have to clean all the time. Hopefully in the future i'll have corals growing and won't be able to reach to bottom back of my tank. Or is that something i have to plan for no matter what?

I have purchased two tunze 6100.10 used off RC. So when i get them in that should help alot. But i still need the spraybar right? I have a pump for my return coming from the sump area and the pump on the side of my tank for the closed loop (no room under or behind).

I'd use the purple primer on the PVC so it does show so bad.
