120 BB...would like input.

So, I am getting a 120g AGA RR tank in the coming days. I have dual BlueLine 40's for the returns, I like redundancy. A EuroReef RS8-2 skimmer in a 40g acrylic sump. I will be running Dual Tunze 6100's as the main flow through the tank. I have dual 250W 14K halides running on Eballasts and dual VHO 46.5" 90w actinics.

I plan to get some starboard and I will also be building a rack for my rock to sit on once the tank gets here.

Do you have any suggestions for me?

Mike

Oh yeah, and I have a RODI unit that runs to a 20g container which I fill up every week. In this container, I run Kalkwasser for the auto top-off of my tank to keep alk and calcium levels up.

How will the Tunze be situated? The reason I ask is that raising the rock is great but youll want flow under it to push the detritus where you can remove it. The best way is with a sprasy bar. You can drill for it (best) or do an over the back set up.

I would go with the 36" VHO atinics since the tank is only 48" long, if you have a canopy they may not fit (depending on how you build it).

I have the same setup minus the Tunze's and sump size. I run a Sequence Dart on 1 closed loop with 4 1" outputs and then a Pan World 150-PS (pressure rated) pump powering 2 eductors on another closed loop.

I have a pre-order in on 2 of the new VorTech pumps and they'll be placed at the 2 ends of the tank blowing towards each other.

Let me tell you what, those eductors move some water, about 3500gph with those only.

On a multicontroller, I hope? With magnet holders?

Set the multicontroller on Interval 1, and have the streams oriented so they create a whirlpool in the tank. Counterclockwise flow for a few minutes, then clockwise flow for a few minutes, and so on.

Also, if the Blueline pump you’re referring to is the 40 HD (pressure rated), rather than the 40X HD (non-pressure-rated), you can put a single eductor on each pump’s return. Then the flow will really be cranking. You won’t have to worry about spraybars with a couple of eductors and a couple of Tunze 6100s (even if only one Tunze is operating at any given time, as it would on a multicontroller on Interval 1). Nothing but the heaviest rocks will stay on the bottom of the tank.

On the pump returns, I prefer up and over, rather than drilled. Gives maximum flexibility to alter the flow pattern in the future, if needed.

Oh yeah, putting penductors on outlets of Bluelines.

Not drilling the tank though and don't want to mess with a closed loop system on this tank.

The Tunzes will be in the back center pointed towards the front corners, set on tidal mode.

Mike

Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah on my setup I regret drilling =\

I'm probably going to end up plugging the bulkheads with a male plug and then removing that. I'll plumb my Dart over the top then.

Elephen...actually I am using the 46.5" VHO's, those usually fit. So I will see when I get the canopy.

weatherman...Yes, 7095 multicontroller but I am not sure about the magnets. I was gonna run tidal mode but I will play with the Tunzes to see what gives the best flow. Yep, its the pressure pumps!

elephen...I just don't want to mess with drilling and I don't like to see a lot of plumbing in the tank so I won't be doing the "up and over" trick either. But I am hoping the Tunze's with the dual bluelines with penductors will be enough.

If you don't mind me asking how much are you paying for the tank, or are you buying and stand and all with the tank?

Well, I am actually getting the tank, stand, canopy, sump, blueline 40HD's, dual Eballasts, reflectors and 14K bulbs for $1200. But I traded a smaller sump, mag drive 12 and a EuroReef RS5-2, so now I only owe hime $965. But I cancelled my order for OM 4Way and Dart which was $550, so I am putting that towards it, I am selling a light that was going over a smaller tank for $350. Plus I have some smaller stuff for sale so it should be about even.

Then I ordered my Dual Tunzes which will be here this week.

Will a 25w UV be enough for that tank?

Mike

I would go with no less than a 36w high output UV unit, anything less won't do much. I run a 40w HO UV and it does a bang up job.

Funny you live in Apopka, I've spent quite a bit of time there, I lived in Sanford for a year and a half and dated a girl that lives in Apopka... Small world

It is a small world. I went out with a girl from Sanford once! Those Sanford girls are pretty trashy though!!

Anyway, I will look into a larger UV.
