Woot Woot!

http://whirley.servehttp.com/myreef/

After much frustration...I finally got it to work correctly.

Digging the feature that the ReefKeeper 2 will send a TEXT messages to my cell phone if my temp/ph goes haywire! Or, if the tank loses power, it'll send a Text message as well.

btw, there's not much to see in the video. Tank's lights turn on from 3pm to 11 pm. I need an extention for the USB cord on my camera, but eventually, it'll show my whole tank.

The possibilities are endless. Since I have access to the data, I can create a timed job or webpage and access that data. Any with many of the new .net 3.5/AJAX/QuickSilver technologies evolving, it's going to be kick ***** !

Telly: what happens at 11pm?

The lights turn off, and the RK2 goes into 'night time' mode. A couple of the powerheads don't run durring night time mode. Gives the fish an easier time to 'sleep'.

GoingPoor, it cost me a little over $300. But, lemme tell you, it's worth every penny money. To have one device that controls everything.....it's heaven. Lights, Skimmers, pumps, Calcium Reactor, water changes...etc. All controlled by one device. And the UI on the RK2 is really simple.

If something did happen, I could tell my wife what to 'click'. And..I can watch it turn on or off via web.

And...if something dramatic does happen (power outtage, heater goes bad), it'll text me. So I can be anywhere and recieve a text message saying that the tank needs help.

I also think of it as an insurance option. I mean, one bad crash, could easily cost me $100+. An ounce of pervention....

Eventually, when I have time, I'm going to setup my .sig in emails with a smaller picture of the tank, the tank temp and PH. Everything is stored in an access database, and it should be pretty easy to create a .aspx webpage to grab that info and display it.

There is another reason to have these types of controlers.
This tank was at a chiropractic office that was setup to send text messages the same as what you have yours setup. The tank called the owner because the tank temp started to rise quickly. It jumped to almost 100 degrees before the doctor could get going. Once he saw this happening in the readouts he called the fire department and arrived at his office just after the fire department got there to find this in his lobby. The fire department said if the tank didnt taxt out that there was a problem the entire building would have been a complete lose which is about 10 different buisness'. Just another reason to go high tech with our tanks if we can.

FWIW

NICE! Think he's sell his equiptment? Get a good discount? ;-)

In the past, all it took to do some major damage to my tank, was for the GFCI to trip. It could be a simple spike in electricity, but if the GFCI tripped, and I didn't know about it, I'm screwed.

My tank is in the basement. It can get a little chilly down there.

I also bought one of those air pumps that run on D batteries. This air pump in particular, senses if a loss of power has occurred. If there is a loss of power, the air pump will automatically turn on and run on batteries. For $12, it's worth its weight in gold.

Btw, just changed up the website. Now, it'll refresh the certain 'sections' and not the whole webpage. I also used a different piece of webcam software that makes the picture larger, and I have the ability to type things ontop of the picture.

Woot woot!
