Who does NOT use Chaeto?

My chaeto is dwindling away to nothing now that I'm using Chemi-Pure Elite.
I'm thinking about dumping what's left, turning off the fuge light, & letting sponges, & duster worms take over.

So - anybody with a reef have good experience not using chaeto?

I want to get my chaeto growing again once the sump is running.. by my nitrates have been 5ppm when I test... my clam does a decent job at filtering. I just want to be able to export phosphates and chaeto should be a good natural way to accomplish that.. basically, if you've got a way to export nitrate or phosphate, then there isn't a compelling reason to keep it unless you count on it to keep pH from swinging too much when the lights turn out in the display - as chaeto will consume CO2 (assuming fuge lights are on 24/7 or reverse cycle).

I had a bad cyanobreakout about 1.5 years ago and tried all different kinds of remedies. Granted, I don't have any corals, just FOWLR, but when I switched from pellets and flake food to making my own concoction the cyano began dropping off. Now I barely have any and it doesn't grow. Similarly my chaeto has dwindled as well and there is hardly anything left of it all the while my nitrates are at 0. So, I doubt its really doing much anymore.

What does the Chemi-Pure do?

Chemi-Pure is like a super charcoal.
Chemi-Pure Elite is the same with GFO added to absorb phosphates.

My chaeto died in my refugium--I think it was outcompeted by the calerupa.
