Wheres the best place to buy corals local?

I got my entire setup from Midwest Corals. What are some other places close to buy from? I have been to Exotic Aquatics in Niles and Age Of Aquariums in Goshen. Neither have a selection like Midwest.

Well, I really don't think your going to find anything like MWC around here. Most everything I have is from local trades and buys from people in the club. Just list what you might be looking for and I would bet someone here can sell or trade you a frag.

Welcom to the group

I agree, MWC is the best in the area.. but, it does have it small drawbacks... hands down the best selection around here though..

I would have to say Midwest Corals is the ONLY place to buy corals......I've been to the other stores in the area and their tanks look nothing like MWC........just my .02

if you're willing to drive, there are a few good places to get stuff too.. I go up to Lansing about once a month and like going to Preuss Pets.. they have a really good setup with variety of fish, coral, and equipment.. and the staff is extremely knowledgeable about a variety things - lighting, filtratation techniques, husbandry, livestock... some around grand rapids and lots around detroit - with Tropicorium being a must stop.

Jim at MWC just has a certain way of doing things - for example, he talks down T5s, doesn't intentionally carry macro algae because he doesn't believe in refugiums, etc. I"m not saying he's wrong - he is obviously doing something right and it's working for him.. It's just not the only way to succed in the hobby.... I personally have a beef with his unlabeled pricing of the corals... it's known he gives people different prices for the same coral... he does list fish prices though...

that said, I do go there often enough - more to look and get buckets of salt... test kits and equipment I order from premium aquatics or marine depot...

oh... Martin's Pet shop here in Elkhart has decent fish selection - shipment some in on wednesdays I believe... I no longer support Age of Aquariums for a variety of reasons...

Oh, I forgot to mention - you can get a good variety of coral frags at very reasonable prices by attending frag swaps... It's how I am stocking my tank with corals now.. But I do have Preuss getting me a pair of tank raised Perculas hosting in an anemone - meaning there is some stuff that you'll still have to get from LFS...
