When this hobby sucks!!!!
Well I have had the biggest loss of life since I started this hobby. I'll start at the begining. Last Friday after being gone most of the day and afternoon I came home and checked the tank as I walked by like I do everyday. Well I seen that my Hepitis tang had some white spots on him, so I took a shower and went out to dinner with the wife befor her night out with the girls. On the way home I picked up some garlic and mashed it up to soak the fish food in. Well by this time the spots had trippled (I'm sure you have figured out that it was Ick). So I feed the fish after soaking the food food for a while.
Well early Saterday morning we are leaving for Ohio to go to the water park for the day and over night. I peeked in the tank and all the fish were in their usual sleeping spots, so I hang some soaked nori and leave hoping for the best when we get back Sunday night. That did'nt happen, I returned to find not only my Blue Hippo dead, also my Bi color blenny missing(assuming dead), the Imperitor and coral beauty angels both dead. The only fish alive is the newest one a Bangi Cardnel. He looks to be clear of any spotts just like when I got him.
I'm not sure if the only problem was the Ick though. I can't believe that it would act so fast. The only other problem I was having was my PH was running low, around 7.7 but it is now back up to where it usually has always be around 8.1. I now of course have a bad cyno outbreak from all the death.
The only positive side is that I have never had such great pyolp extention from my corals. Andnow with such a small bio load I think I will be able to get the bubble alge under controll. I'm going to let the tank rest for at least a month befor I add any thing. Just do water changes and normal maint.
This sucks
Brett

Wow sorry to hear about your losses. If no fish leave it fallow at least 6 weeks to ensure that it is gone. Again, sorry about your loss.

Agreeing on fishless for 6 weeks. If you don't see ick on the fish don't assume its gone. It infects their gills long before you can see it.

Wow
sorry for your lost
I bet your first fish might have died from Ick.
All the others may have died because of the ammonia and/or nitrite spike caused by the dead fish. It sucks becuase if you were home you may have had only one fish loss.
I am now a strong suporter of quarantine.

That sucks Brett. Yeah, I'm guessing the one large dead tang with ick is what killed the others since you weren't there to get it out. If none of your corals died, at least that is a good thing. If you would have been gone for another day I'd bet everything would be dead.

Sorry to hear this Brett. It is kind of puzzling what brought on the ich in the tang. He had been with you for several years now.

Wow! Sorry about your fish.
It's scary when something like this happens to somebody who has such nice tanks.
Just goes to show that it could happen to anybody.
