Trendy names

Are you guys about as fed up as I am? Some people are now claiming "documented" (whatever that means). You'd almost be led to believe that some of these people actually sexually breed corals/zoos (in which case you SHOULD be able to name them). A cool coral is a cool coral--who cares what the name is? I can't even keep track of all the names floating around now.

yeah.. there's been big and hotly debated discussions about it last year in the MR forum... I can understand naming things as a reference .. but people are doing it for marketing purposes and making things appear to be unique because of the name itself and therefore demanding an unwarranted higher price..

I usually refer to them by their scientific names, something like this:

I want the blue ones with the frilly green thingies on them.

Their doing that with dogs .Ex. Labador mix with a Poddle= Labadoddle.all it is ,is a mut.But their getting more money for them then some pure breeds.I feel like buying some dogs from the pound and make up a name and sell them for 2000% profit.
Go on e-bay and see what people sell from a reef, and how much!

Actually I was watching a Science Channel Reef documentry and remember somthing about mas coral spwans. basically most corals spwan at the same time and they do cross breed. so there could be new "species" after every spawn. If someone could re create a mass swpan then they have the right to name it

I don't think it's the spawning that is difficult--it's the rasing of the larvae that's tough.

I miss the good ole days when people would use the scientific names only.

I'm sick of Yeloow sun lemon zoo, or blue afternoon sky or pink lemonade zoo....or my brother in law's arm pit zoo...

*sniff*

The good ole days....I miss them.
