Sick Hawaiian Tang
My Hawaiian Tang is acting strange. My Hippo died 2 weeks ago or so. No warning, no Ich, just, "Where's Dori?" We found her skeleton. Now when I got home my Yellow was against the bottom skimmer screen. I pushed him off and he seems a little tipsy, but he's swimming. My shrimp are picking on him, and his fins are a little torn up, but he's still swimming.
Any Ideas? Salinity is 1.021, temp was at 78, i just turned the heaters back to 73-74, other paramaters not checked, but everything else is acting ok.

Check your ammonia. Did he like to eat greenery....ie spinach or seaweed etc...tangs need vegetalble matter as they are susceptible to head/line erosion and ich. Could it be velvet?

I'm guessing if the shrimp are interested in him, he's pretty much a goner.

Do anything new or add anything recently?
Checked you ammonia/nitirite levels? I'm sure the dead fish caused a spike and am wondering if that has come down yet.

He ate romaine lettuce about once a week. I haven't done anything at all recently, and my protein skimmer works so well it just about takes salt out of the water lol.. not really, but it works good. I don't think much of when dori died, because she was skeleton within a day, and i dont think it had enough time to become ammonia.

Just an update, Bubbles died overnight. He was against the skimmer input on the bottom of the tank, and this morning he's lying on the substrate in the same spot.

Water Test: Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0.05 (might as well be 0) Nitrate 2.5
Autopsy inconclusive. Appears to be broken heart from Dori dying.

Well I hope this is the end of your casualties.....I would watch carefully for any signs of anything amiss with any other animals in your tank......
