Shedd Aquarium

My wife has been wanting to go to Shedd Aquarium for a while now. She suggested that we all (try to) get our families together at the same time and go. Unfortuntately, I don't see anything on the site about a group rate. I don't think this would be possible to get everyone around the same day, but just maybe? Just a thought to throw out there.

I would call them the Chicago reef club & Imac both have set up behind the scene tours and I don't remember paying full price when we went with CMAS.

You mean, like seeing what they run, lighting, filtration, etc? That would be sweet.

It was very cool ! They did a slide show on how they collect the critters. Then the tour. My pictures didn't turn out great (I had my daughter with me she was 2 at the time) I'll try to find some though

I just found on the site where the group reservation page is, and all 3 areas are like $16.00/person (Aquarium, Oceanarium, and Wild Reef). It doesn't say anything about what you mentioned tho. It makes me curious

It doesn't take much to become a NIMAS member

Eric,

The trip sounds like a good idea. Sometime in late spring or early summer?

I haven't been in the back of the Shedd aquarium. I had my chance when I was a CMAS member. FYI, you can be a cmas member for $10 if you want to be. I'm just saying that you don't have to live in Chicago to be a CMAS member. Anyone can be a member.

IMHO, I was disappointed with the Wild Reef part of Shedd. Perhaps it's because I've been in this hobby too long, but I've already seen most of the corals. I've swam with sting rays before, so that part of the show wasn't anything special. To be honest, with all the hype (at that time) they put over the wild reef, I kinda feel ripped off.

I wanna hit the one in Altanta, Georgia. Road trip anyone?

Haha. That would be amazing. Some day I'm going to get to that one. Who knows when.

My wife and I just took our 2yr old twins to shedd on Thursday. I would be real interested in going back for a behind the scenes tour. We have also tossed around the idea of going to Atlanta, but thats a long drive to see a aquarium.....have to hit if up on the way to/from Florida..

If it helps, I could contact the CMAS president and see how they got in. Are we talking a NIMAS road trip to the shedd one Saturday or Sunday ?
