Ordering
I am putting an order in to everything4saltwater Thurs. if anyone close wants something let me know. I'll get it and pay when you pick it up. Not sure how long it takes for delivery but the last time it took a little longer than expected but they have some good prices.

I am going to need some bulkheads, but am going to need some help picking out what I need. I am thinking 4-1" schedule 80 for the overflow and returns:
http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewIt...d~vendor~.html
Is this one the standard bulkhead with the right threads?
Not sure on the CLS.

You got me on bulk heads for CLS. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Looks like it would work to me. It just depends how you want to plumb it.

I've never used that kind before. They look like they would work though. $16 is pretty pricey though.
As far as the size, it depends on how big your return pump is--personally, I'd want 1 1/2 on the drain (unless you're using 2 1").

Where is a good spot to buy bulkheads? I figured they would all be the same price for the most part. I plan on having two 1" drains going down to the sump and then have 1" coming out the pump T'ing of to two 1" returns in the middle of the tank. Any recommendations for a return pump thats quiet? For my CLS, I plan on having two 1-1/2" drains in the middle back of the tank going down to probably a Dart, then have it go up to two 1-1/2" returns in the corners of the tank. I have no idea on this stuff, first time setting up something like this. Let me know if I need to change anything and what is a good return pump.
Sorry Scott, I did a good job hijacking your thread. Mods can move to new thread if need.
Thanks,
Scott

No problem. The order to Marine Depot was put in already. My wife saw it and decided to surprise me by putting it in. I told her that she should have waited in case someone else wanted to order. I found that out this afternoon and the next thing I get is an order confirmation saying that it has been shipped already. Man Marine Depot moves fast. The other place I was going to order from would have took 2 weeks.

These are the type I use:
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...Code=Bulkheads
I don't think there is any real advantage to having 2 intakes for the CL. Also, with 2X1 1/2 returns there won't be a whole lot of velocity--personally, I'd go with 1". Having 2 drains to the sump is handy in case one got blocked, but it's going to take up alot of space in an overflow (especially if you're going to have dursos). I'd also have 1 pipe for the return and T it at the top of the overflow for the space factor.
Having 4 hole in such close proximity would make me a little nervous too. Actually, I'd be a little worried that the bottom of your tank is tempered.
As far as pumps go--I like the PanWorld magnetic pumps.

The reason I was planning on 2 intakes for the CLS was that I didnt want to have too much suction on one intake that inverts could get stuck to it. I remember reading somewhere that someone recommeded having 2 for that reason, whether that is true or not, I dont know.
With the 1-1/2" returns on the CLS, I was going to have 1/2" loc-line T for each return going into the tank, will that help out with the velocity of the water?
Now for the overflows, I was thinking instead of an overflow box on the back, I was going to drill the holes at the top near the water level and have an elbow come out into the tank pointing up. I believe Scott has something like this and maybe he can elaborate more on this.
I plan of having all holes drilled on the back side of the tank b/c I think the bottom is tempered. Will it be a problem having 8 holes drilled in back of the tank? The glass is 1/2" think.
Thanks for all the help Dave, I have no idea how to set up something like this and am relying on you guys for info. I will check out those pumps as well. Will something like 1200 gph be good enough for the return pump in the sump?

I would go 2 1" CL returns and T them into 5/8 locline for a total of 4 outlets (if not even a 3rd hole--6 outlets). I think 1/2 locline would be too small for the Dart--plus going from 1 1/2" to 1/2" would mean big ugly adapters.
As far as the drain with the elbow--I guess it just depends if you want to look at 2 smaller elbows or 1 bigger one (you could put some really tall rock walls in front of them I guess).

I like the idea of having 1" going into 5/8" loc-line. I will go that route. I would like to have 3 holes for the CLS outlets, but dont know if that would be to much going across the top of a 48" wide tank. What about putting the 3rd hole down low in the middle? That way I can have good movement going behind my rocks. The only thing I worry about that is if there is a power outage, it would siphon all my water in my tank and overflor my sump. I know they got check valves, but in case it failed I would be screwed.
For the return pipes from my sump, would you have that on loc-line as well?
Thanks for the help Dave.

I was talking about the closed loop returns--you can put them anywhere.

I am also playing with the idea of building a weir box in the center like this one for my overflows.
http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/s...d.php?t=190582
I wouldnt want it to run down the back of the tank and will probably only make it about 6" deep. The only thing wrong with that is I can see it coming unglued and start floating around my tank.

I have 3/4 pvc going to 5/8 locline for my return. Make sure you put at least one high enough in the tank so that it doesn't back siphon when the power goes out. You can also drill a small hole in the pipe above the waterline too.
