I have a high sps bioload with good growth. I use that mixture as all of my topoff and use the homemade 3 part supplement. I've been doing this for about 2 yrs now and it's worked really well. I haven't tested in a while because it's been so consistent. The Ca is around 420 and alk is around 3.5 meq/l. If everything is growing well I don't really worry about testing.

I use a little over 1 tsp per gallon in the auto-topoff. I don't have too high a calcium demand as my corals are 'small' but coralline is growing mad.
I dose DIY two part and DIY magnesium (All Randy Holmes Farley recipes)whenever readings need adjustment. I haven't had to add calcium part of 2 part b/c the kalk maintains Ca btwn 420 and 450 ppm. Alk is no lower than 8 and usually at 10. I do add the alk part of two part depending on test results (if at 8 dkH I add; if higher, I let be). Mg is currently at 1320 (I just dosed Mg last week.) Prior to that it was at 1130. I do not have calcium reactor either. It's been working for me and my 75g so far.
Mixing the kalk is part of my morning routine before going to work so it's not that big a deal.

I only dose Kalk. For smaller systems, that's all you really need. Keeps your alk and ca in check, only thing Ihave to worry about is the rise in PH, but it's not a major concern.
I build a DIY kalk reactor that holds 5 gallons of water from my RO water resevior.
Pretty cheap and easy to maintain. I think thewhole reactor cost me like $15 to make. $3 per canister of Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime, and your golden.
I dose one cup of kalk to 6-8 gallons of RO water.
Btw, I saw that the Martins on Ironwood and 23rd had them on thier shelves.
HTH.

I was dosing kalk in my auto topoff and it was clogging the line from the aquadose pump to the sump so I switched to seachem reef advantage ca....which I really like as it doesn't affect the ph or mg.

I bought the small kalk reactor from Myreefcreations. I put in about 2 cups everytime I fill it. It doses when my auto top off kicks in. I have my RO/DI set up with a solenoid. When the sump level lowers, the float switch activate the solenoid to open. The RO/DI water pushes water into my kalk reactor, then into my sump. I never have large resevoir. Just my kalk reactor.

Are you bringing in fresh water directly from a RO/DI unit? If the float swith/solenoid fail wouldn't the RO/DI be an unlimited resevoir?

Yes I am. I have two float switches. One regular, then the backup. In the new tank I am going to do this same setup but I am going to put one of those kent float switch that when the water raises, it raises the arm that shuts off the water. Kind of a second backup. So far not problems at all. My solenoid is before the kalk reactor so only freshwater goes through it.
