Membership requirements??
I'm located just north of Ft. Wayne, I was just wondering what are the requirements to become a member of NIMAS? Do I even live in an area covered by NIMAS? Any information will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy

I think you're pretty much in already! There's no formality to it. Just as long as you have more than 10 posts I think, and you are in the area. Looks like you met both of those requirements.
You are welcome to attend meetings if you'd like. They just consist of guys getting together at a member's house, and talking reefs, no minutes or anything. Afterwards, those who decide to bring frags, trade or sell them. We are actually looking for a host for the September meeting. If you are interested, feel free to volunteer. We have at least one other member, Adnuces, that is also out your direction. I acutally have a couple frags in my tank now if you are interested in a some, mostly SPS.
I checked out your 24G Aquapod build. Not bad so far! It's always nice to see new stuff popping up.
Welcome to NIMAS!

There is a huge requirement for NIMAS.....
You have to like marine tanks!
I'll PM you the password for the member's area....since it doesn't appear that you're just here to sell stuff.

Thanks digitalis, grallster. No, not here to sell stuff, I am a pack rat, I tend to keep everything, until I hear say somone say they need something, then if I have one, I may get rid of it. I'm looking more for other "somewhat" local marine enthusiasts, that may like to trade/sell frags with. I currently have none, so... more looking to get them currently. On that note, I would really like some ricordia, does anyone have any idea where to get some?? I have never seen it at any of the LFS around here.
I will be in michigan over labor day weekend, doing some custom audio work on a vehicle, I think I'm going to check out pruess pets and another store I was told is good in Grand Rapids while I'm in mighigan. Any info on some good LFS up that way would be great. I think I'll mostly be on
I-69 and I-96.
Thanks again for letting me join the group,
Andy

Glad to finally see someone from the Ft Wayne area on here....... I am always looking for someone to swap frags with though I don't have many to swap right now unless you could pieces of gsp and mushrooms galore.....I just bought a couple of rics off ebay......the shipping is the killer. Klaus had a couple of orange ones at Coral Reef that he was selling for $25 a polyp, not sure if he still has them or not. It would be great if someone closer hosts a meeting.......Unfortunately I can't for a bit yet hopefully in a couple of months. Again, welcome to the group.
FWIW, I have bought stuff from Premium Aquatics in Indy and find them reasonably priced with great customer service.

It's cool to have some members out in your direction.
Any good LFS in your area? I have been to Sea Dwellers in Angola, they used to have an awesome store on Lima RD in Fort Wayne if I remember right.

If you go to indy Premium has very limites hours or they are by appt only. I emailed the pres. of INDMAS (??) a few weeks ago asking about LFS in indy he suggested a few I'll se if I can find that email.

Found the email:
Chris,
Premium Aquatics is the only place for drygoods that is out of the ordinary. All the other places I know of are probably no different than what you can find around South Bend. There are some nice livestock stores if you want to check them out just for fun. I particularly like Extreme Aquarium in Zionsville and Abyss. There is also Specks and Safari Pets in Avon.
I believe there are a couple threads on our forums regarding local stores that are good to check out. If you can't find them, feel free to start another one and ask people for their opinions.

Not sure about any store on Lima Rd. I wish that there were more stores in our area. You would think a city our size would have more stores. Klaus' Coral Reef has some nice fish and a few nice pieces of coral but he is pricey. Pet Warehouse has recently really expanded their coral selections and are not too bad though their dry goods are really expensive.

That's true, but in my case i've emailed what i wanted in a order to them, asked Jason if my wife can pick up my stuff on a certain day (She has family in Indy ,and is not all that far now from their new place)He's always said no problem, but don't expect to wander around "shopping" since they are most always super busy w/ customers either on the phone,on-line,or filling orders for shipping , or in my case, for pickup. I you pre-order(and even prepay) and make arraingments on a day/time to be there to pick it up, they are pretty cool with that.
Even when i asked Jason, the owner , if i could check out the livestock (or wander quickly thru the hard goods aisles) He most times told me yes, I STILL got mean looks and a few times got "yelled at" by employees that i can't do that) they kinda shut up when i told them Jason said i could ,but still were PO'ed regardless.
But if you do your shopping ahead of time, email/call in the order, they most times have no problem with you coming in, picking yer stuff up (and paying them LOL) at a pre -determined time.

Also FWIW, I think i had mentioned to Jason a while back about the club , and possible TRT/NIMAS discounts since they are also a sponsor here on TRT. So it might not be a bad idea (on some things, i would not dicker on price or expect a discount on lil/low cost stuff ) to mention you are a member of TRT and/or NIMAS if you are shopping for bigger buck items, and don't forget, Premium DOES price match ,or better if it's for sale (printed) elsewhere.

I love premium. You order early enough in the day ground shipping always gets it here next day too. Too bad they weren't within easy driving distance though. Now that would be awesome.
