Ideas for large sump

I am going to be up sizing to a 225 gallon tank. I need a larger sump. Any ideas on what container to use?

Build it yourself using 3/8" acrylic. Here is mine for my 180 gallon. The sump is 48" long, 24" wide and 16" tall. I think it cost a little of $200 to build but I was able to do it the way I wanted.

I assume you will have a fish room? An old used tank is a pretty affordable way to do it...I have a 55 for a sump for my 125...It's actually a little tight with all the junk I have hooked up in it now....LOL!

if you're a DIYer, then Tony's suggestion is the best because you get to build it the way you want it - dimensions, zones/comparments, etc.

Buy someone's used sump... scour the boards, TRT, RC, MR, etc...

You can get a used glass tank and silicone baffles to it...

pay someone to build you one - most expensive route since I'm assuming you'll want at least 100g sump... look to pay at least $600 going this route...

use a rubbermaid stock tank (100g or larger) - not the best looking or functional w.r.t. baffling but definitely can get you more water volume... a new one can set you back at least $150 ...

I don't like rubbermaids because my heater melted through the side of mine (a regular rubbermaid--not the stock tank type).

One of the local fish stores that has since gone out of business built mine for me. It is the size of a 50 breeder (36x18x18) and made from acrylic. I traded a bunch of xenia frags and $20. Maybe you can find a deal like that.

I found that Rubbermaid makes a 50 gallon trough for cattle that might work. I am more old school at this and run a trickle system and don't use all the various compartments in newer sumps.

If you decide to build, I'll help out if I can. Acrylic tank/sump building is easier than it sounds.......

Dan taught me how to do it and yes it is very easy. Dan when are you going to make it out here for some frags?
