How do you keep fish from jumping?

I have an inwall tank that has an open top and it seems that about the only way that I lose fish (other than buying them from Petco) is by them jumping out of the tank. I am looking for suggestions or ideas on how to cover the tank. I don't want to use glass due to heat issues and I don't want it to block very much light.

I am thinking a light weight PVC frame with some kind of netting stretched across it that lays over the tank and is easily removable. If anyone has seen or used netting like this please let me know.

I am open to any ideas or suggestions.
Thanks

Ever think of using Ceiling grate? The plastic ceiling grate used underneath lights in offices.

Funny you ask this today. I just found my jawfish on the ground this morning. Picked him up and put him back in the tank and had to head out for work so I am hoping he's alive when I get back home. This is what I made for the top of my tank. Window screen edges with pond mesh I bought at petsmart. The holes in the mesh are about 1/4-1/2' big.

Obviously it didnt work to good since my jawfish got out. Tonight I am going to add another layer of mesh crisscrossing the first layer. Hopefully that keeps them in.

What fish did you lose?
How about window screen held down around the edges with velcro?
You could cut a little hatch out of it so you can feed.

ScottDWH,
That is exactly what I had in mind. Sorry to hear that it didn't do the job. Let me know if doubling it up makes a difference. Do they make a finer wesh with smaller holes by chance?

Grallster,
I lost another clown fish. Found him on the floor in the fish room a couple of days ago. This is about the third clown, 2 fire fish, and a long nosed hawk fish.

I would love to have a couple of fire fish but refuse to add anymore until I can figure out a cover so I don't kill anymore.

As far as egg crate I am afrain that it will block too much light. Scott's idea is just what I am looking for though.

Bender, when I first got my fire fish I used that mesh stuff that Scott has. I bought it off someone here because it was clear not black. I put it in the those window screen frames. I took them off since my firefish never came near the top. A year after taking them out I found my naso tang laying on the floor. ****it.

when I interned at a public aquarium, they just used some plastic crate paneling from a hardware store and it worked great

Joshubl,
Thanks for the suggestion. I looked into the eggcrate idea, but I am worried that it will block too much light. I am looking for a tighter mesh similar to what scottdwh used.
