Home with sick kids all week, look what I did

Well I have been home all week with 2 sick kids. I cleaned my tank and did a few littlle things on it. Did some work around the house. Was on here and RC for I don't know how may hours. Then today I did a little replumbing on the tank , and had to remove my leaking Squid. Finally board out of my mind I hit the DIY sections looking for something I could make or repair with things I had around here. I found A thread about building a new housing for a busted Squid. Well I have a pretty good start all I have to do now is cut and install the 3/4" outlets. Check it out below.

Cool! They should just make them like that in the first place (course then you wouldn't have to buy new ones all the time).

I agree Dave, once you get to the actuall gearing it is easy to clean.

I'm home againg with the boys today, man they nneed to get better soon. I need to go to work so I can use the drill press and finish this.

I have a 1/2" drill press here you can come over and use if you want, Brett.

Let me know if you are able when the wife gets home.

Here is the finished Squid mod. Got it on the tank it is switching great and I have a little bit more flow than I did with the old housing.

As much as those squids break, you should make these and put them on the internet

Well Loubee,

they are fine for as long as they work. The problem is that they are a sealed unit and can not be cleaned out. Soaking in vinigar sometines helps but not always. The way I built this I only used the inner gearing of the Squid unit., the rest is all PVC and I can take it apart to clean it.

Hmmm. I have a SCWD just doing nuttin at the moment (took down 6-8 months ago when I redid the closed loop with larger diamter piping... now I don't have a closed loop but modded MJ and Nanostream).. this might be a good project to do on a rainy saturday in the summer and plumb it to the 20g...
