Hey Dave, Grallster

Well I'm thinking about setting up the nano for the 3dr time but want to run a 7 gallon bucket sump with it to increase water voloum. Dave, ever drill a 5.5 gallon tank? I'm thinking about entering the build off but I need to change some things.

Thanks,
Brett

I've never drilled one that small, but it shouldn't be a problem. How thick is the glass?

Not too sure, can't be much more than 1/4" I would guess. I do have a practice tank.

Careful, the smaller tanks tend to be tempered more often than not... you're chances are great that it is if it has radiused corners.

If we can dril it what size do you think will work for an overflow? 3/4" or 1". I think I will be using a Mag 2 for a return pump with about 3' of head pressure.

Thanks,
Brett

I only have hole saws to fit 1" and 11/2"--so 3/4 is out. If your tank is 1/4 I really doubt it's temepered--otherwise they would have used thinner glass. Also, tempered glass would have sanded edges--so if yours are still sharp, it's not tempered.

Well the glass is thinner than I thought. It is 1/8" but the edges are sharp I guess. Like I said I have the old tank that we can try first.

Anyone have a 1" bulk head that I could buy?

Thanks,
Brett

Might as well try it--nothing ventured, nothing gained! Did you buy that tank somewhere?

Well I have the old one that I used befor, but bought a new one since the old one is sectioned off in the corner and I'm not doing this build like that. So we can hack at that one first.
I'm picking up a bulk head from Jaim today. What are your plans for the rest of the week or maybe Sat.?

Thanks,
Brett

Well just take a whack at the old one with a hammer and see if it explodes or not! I will be free tomorrow after 1, friday after 2--I'm not real sure about Sat.
