Getting our own web site again

I have a theory that I can get a domain (subbed off my own business domain) and get the board going again. I would need donations for the software, and extra cost for the domain. Is anyone willing to help out, or am I just trying too hard for our own server?

As much as I liked our own site, we need to make it more permanent if it does come back. The expense associated with that is something that should be supported by its members and not just one person (I believe it's the reason why we are in this situation now) so we minimize the risk of losing the site again. That's my opinion on it.

OR

We just make TRT our home. It's free - I believe - and there's a lot more to read up on than a stand-alone site that has just a few hundred members to support it. If we want to make trade or offer things up for sale (which happened to be the biggest draw for posts at NIMAS for new members IMO) we can use another free site if TRT doesn't allow that within this sub-forum.

We're working on it as we speak (you noticed the area above the forum here?) Members only? that'l be where we will be able to do stuff like that: buy/sell/trade,,,amoung club members,,,along with club members only talk/info etc.
So hang on a lil bit longer , and the members only area will be open for use real soon

Cool.. I just saw it. I'm assuming you'll PM us the password?

I was just IMing with Digi.. He's done some research on domain and software pricing. It may be something that can be discussed during the next meeting? There are pros and cons obviously.

I think if we compile a list on what we expect to get out of being members of NIMAS, then we can better gage what kind of tools (software/domain/etc.) we'd need to achieve those goals. That's my $0.02

First of all I would like to thank the people here at TRT and especially Junkzoo for all the improvements that they are working on for our forum here.

It is just my opinion, but I would rather have our board here rather than on our own. Having lost our board for the third time now, I would prefer to be somewhere more permanent. Every time we lose our board we lose members, as well as taking everyone that stays a while to get back to posting. We also lose all of our old posts and information contained within them. With one person being responsible for the board there is a much greater chance of them losing interest or getting caught up in something else and letting the board lapse.
Again, this is just my opinion on the subject.

I pretty much agree with Aaron 100% on this matter. Not that other people would not do a better job running a stand alone site for us, I think those of us that have been around since the pseudo-merger of two area clubs (the Valpo area w/ the South Bend area guys) we are prob a lil gunshy on striking out with a stand alone board again,,True we lost a lot of members every time the board went down (have not heard from the "owner" of the old board , as to why we lost it this time )and all the stuff we had on it,,I kick myself for not making a list of all the members on the old board, and their contact info,,since i feel we have a good number of prev members that don't have a clue to what happened and the fact thast we are here now (even tho i had posted that i had this forum put on TRT from the time prev that we lost it.)
I feel that we have a good "landlord" here with Greg been the owner of TRT, and he has offered a few percs to having a club forum here .
I think for the time being, that we stay here at TRT,but discussing this matter at the next meeting , or here in the members only subforum (don't forget to PM myself , bklynmet, dig, or one of other members that have aready tried out the members only area, for the password to access it.When you get there ,please post in there, so we know you have had no problems gettting there and we can open it up for real,,,(and don't forget, we are looking for a new perm password that everyone involved likes,,,)

well I think we should just stay here. But if we do look at our own site i rec www.1and1.com with all their packages they offer the software. I might be able to get one set up there by piggy back off my dads website because i have done stuff for him and he has another domain he can register as for a password I think a good perm would be NIMAS

Sounds like a plan to me. I agree with everyone's comments, I just wanted to get a feel for the overall consensus.

I agree with Aaron and Jeff--it's already here and it's free--can't go wrong!
