Corals for PC lighting
To date I've only kept fish. As you may have seen in another thread my refugium light 2x65W PC bulbs burned out last weekend and so I'm going to get some new ones. I was thinking about possibly trying a coral or two down there just to get a flavor for more of the reef keeping aspect. My lights in the DT are just normal output flourescent so I can't do anything up there.
What types of corals thrive under power compacts? I wouldn't want to try something just to have it eek out an existance?

Mushrooms, & leathers should be OK. Sun coral doesn't need light, but has to be fed.

there are some leathers that need intense light... otherwise Todd's suggestions are good ones.

Whatever corals you put down there, you'll have to make sure the macroalgae doesn't overgrow it.

I know that the watts per gallon rule is outdated but since you have PC lighting it may apply. You have just over 2 watts per gallon, that's not much.
How close will the corals be to the lights?

The fuge is sectioned into three parts, the middle part where I have some rock and a DSB with a couple mangrove trees only has about 6 inches of water in it and the lights right now are about a foot above that (could be lowered if needed.

I have the macroalgae in another part of the fuge... plus there is so little growth to the algae that I'm not really worried about it taking over. If it does, then I probably have some other problems!

You should be able to keep a lot of things with 130 watts over 6" of water.

Heck--you could probably even have some orange cap (tank raised that is)--its about as easy as leathers IMO.

Pulsing Xenia might also be a good idea.
