bleaching monti

I have a purple monti that the edges are bleaching pretty bad. It is near a hammer head coral. Could this be the problem?

It could very well be the problem. Is the hammer brushing against the monti at all? Many LPS corals will extend sweeper tentacles that they use to sting other corals. Some sweepers can be several inches long depending on the coral.

I would agree with bender.. hammer corals - the non anchor (wall) type - that have 'heads' have been known to have long swwepers tnetacles and should be located a safe disctance away from corals you do not want being stung.

I will try moving it. I am going to rearrange some items. Monti likes a lot of light don't they?

Let's see a picture. The growing edges of a monti cap can be very light or white in color, so you may not be seeing bleaching at all. Your monti may just be growing. If you are seeing areas of white with no polyps all over the coral, then that is indeed a bad thing. But if it's just the edges....might be a good thing!
