Eductors are dangerous!
OK, I'll admit it. I'm a little slow on the uptake side sometimes.
I've seen these things all my life, especially in shrimp hatcheries, and it never occurred to me to try one on the home tank.
I just tried two in the tank at home, I now have whirlpools in the tank.
For all practical purposes, it looks like you just multiplied you pump by at least 5 times bigger.

I know that www.aquaticeco.com sells them too....do a search on educators. I am toying with the idea of trying one.
Jerel, what size pump and what size inlet on the educator?

Andy,
It's that Iwaki 40 on the closed loop for the UV. I plumbed it all in 1", cause I had it handy that day.
It was circulating "fair" before. Now it's causing surge and whirlpools.
I popped a 1" to 3/4" reducer in it and got the 3/4" male thread eductor.
The good thing about the eductors is they don't put out a hard stream of water like a nozzle on a hose. They move a "wave" of water that's massive. It's about a 15 degree cone of water coming out.

Jerel,
What would be a good layout for say a 90 Gallon tank. How many eductors and what size would you need. Also how would you plumb a closed loop system to gain the maximum benefit from them say using a MAG 12 return pump. I am curious because I am not completely happy with the way my current is flowing now.

Earl, what's the measurements on a 90. About 4 ft, right?
If you used these on a 90, you'd have to choke them back with a valve ahead of them. I'm running the pumps wide open and it's scary.
I think on a shorter tank, I'd go with the 30 degree cone. I'm using the 15 degree. I was afraid the 30 would poop out before it ran the 10ft length of the tank.

My dimensions are 48x18x24 with a 7.5" sandbed so the height is proabably 16.5" to 18". How many would I need one to two or more? I would like a wider dispersion in my tank anyway.

I am thinking of using two of the 1 1/2" models on my closed loop with an AM 3000, but it probably won't be enough pressure. Maybe I should reduce it to a 1" outlet and test....

I would run a 30 degree on each end in a 4 ft tank. Just judging from what I've seen with these.
Andy,
I hooked one up to one of the returns on the AmpMaster. The Amp is running two returns at one time. The one return with the eductor is working just fine. With the other return open.

I know the website said the 1 1/2 are ~9" long....
Jerel, do you think I should use the 1 1/2 or use a 1 1/2 x 1" bushing and then use the 1" educator....This is a 7x3 tank...it will be pushing from the back to front of the tank.
