Plans for a sump/refuge setup
Hi all,
I just drew up this plan for a 20 gal sump and 20 gal refuge setup for my 46 gal bowfront. Please take a look and let me know if you see any design flaws that could cause problems, or any thing else you would suggest. Note: I know the Aqua C Remora is not the best for this setup, but I already own it and don't want to make another investment when this one will skim just fine.
Thanks,
-Chris

that looks fine. why do you have baffles in the refugium?
what kind of critters do you plan on keeping in your system. just wondering why you want a refugium. i would just use the extra water volume and call it good.

Thanks Geoff,
I want the refugium for macroalgae, some extra live rock, and so that I can produce more pods. Since I have such a small tank I want to make sure that I can produce enough to eventually house a mandarin.
I thought the baffles would help to reduce the amount of microbubbles running through the system. Do you think they're unneccessary in the refuge?

since you have baffles already in the sump, then i think they are redundant in the fuge.

Haha, I really DO like this site. I clicked on the DIY section thinking, "hmmm, where can I find DIY instructions for a sump in my 46-gallon bowfront...."

the other thing i noticed, in the sump
you have the uptake to the refuge on the left and the intake from the refuge on the right ( which goes to the main display) you might have a problem water level wise ( maybe not sure if it matters) the baffles are set the same height. so there is no differance which wa the water from the refuge goes.. either to the main tank or to the left side of the sump back to the refuge..
other then that.. looks fine..
if youwant to DYI your own skimmer look at the one geoff built. i will be making one soon myself.pretty cheap to make one.

If your going to create food in the fuge wouldn't you want to have it siphon directly to the main tanks so as not to create the frog in the blender trick?
