Wharyat's DIY 20G

This nano will be completly DIY; tank, stand, hood, etc.

So Far:
I Have the tank built and drilled, measures 24x18x12, inside 23.5x17.5x12. The overflow will be one inch from the top of the glass, giving me a display volume of 19.58 gallons.

Stand and canopy are in construction phase, need to be skinned with 3/8" ply, sanded, stained, and sealed.

In the works:
Lighting is to be a surprise. I think you all will like what I have in the works.

Skimmer will be a DIY "Geoff" design powered by mag 5.

Sump/fuge will be a 10 gallon.

Tank specifics:
Main flow will be a CLS, powered by mag 7 or 9.5, have yet to decide.

Sump return will be powered by mag 5.

Bare bottom.

Mainly SPS and LPS, some zoos and such for filling empty spots.

One, maybe two fish.

Hermits, astrea snails, and trident snails for algae control.

Approx 40 lbs LR.

And of course, Pics:

Getting ready. I found the 12x24 sheets at a garge sale for $4, perfect, no chips or anything. I got an 18x24 sheet for bottom pane cut at the local glass company for about $18.

All put together. I may put some stainless steel around the top for structural support; not necessary tho.

Drilling practice, my first hole in glass. I got the holesaws off ebay for next to nothing.

How it should look when done.

Thanks guys.

Well, did some sanding today, finished sanding the stand (minus the skin) and stand base. My arm is just now recovering from all the vibrating of the sander, and I still got lots of sanding to do .

One thing everyone should do when they sand is wear a mask, the amount of dust on my floor should be a definate reinforcement.

Stand so far.

Stand base. This is one application of the color I am going to do, red mahogany, I plan for two more applications to get it nice and dark.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I've had to slow down the last few days, it snowed a good 7"; so it's not the greatest staining/varnishing weather. Lighting is coming along, still waiting on some part replenishment shipments from Hong Kong.

WooHoo, You go boy.

It might not be good varnishing weather, but it sure is conducive to working on every other aspect of your tank! Looking good.
